About the team: The Website squad sits at the heart of SumUp's Acquisition Mission, owning the digital experience that shapes a merchant's journey from their very first interaction with SumUp to discovering and purchasing our products. As the bridge between Engineering, Product, Marketing, Design, and Sales, the team has a direct and visible impact on how we attract merchants, grow our business, and generate revenue. As Engineering Manager, you'll have the opportunity to lead a high-impact team and play a key role in shaping how millions of merchants experience SumUp online. You'll combine people leadership, technical direction, and strategic thinking to help the team deliver high-quality experiences while continuously improving the way we build and operate. You'll also have the opportunity to influence some exciting initiatives, including our ongoing Content Management System (CMS) migration, while driving improvements in engineering practices, delivery excellence, technical quality, and team culture. This is a role for someone who enjoys working at the intersection of technology, product, and business, and who wants to see a clear connection between their team's work and SumUp's growth. What you'll do: Lead the Contentful-to-Builder.io migration through to successful completion, ensuring technical quality, delivery continuity, long-term stability and alignment with Product and Marketing. Lead and develop the Website squad of four full-stack engineers, creating clear ownership, accountability, development plans and delivery expectations. Set the squad's technical direction and simplify or modernise the web architecture to support SumUp's growth, scalability and performance. Assess the team's technical health, delivery flow and technical debt, then improve sprint reliability and delivery predictability. Drive engineering excellence across testing, CI/CD, observability, on-call practices, maintainability and operational ownership. Introduce practical engineering metrics, including DORA and developer productivity indicators, to identify bottlenecks and guide measurable improvements. Partner closely with Product, Marketing, Design, Platform, MarTech and Performance Marketing to align priorities and automate operational tasks where possible. Build a high-trust, inclusive and high-performing engineering culture through coaching, transparent communication, constructive performance management and effective stakeholder collaboration. You'll be great for this role if you have: 6+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years managing an engineering team or squad. Hands-on technical background in web technologies and architecture, including React, Next.js, TypeScript, Go, microservices and APIs. Experience with CMS platforms such as Builder.io, Contentful or similar systems, ideally combined with experience leading a large-scale migration or technical transformation. Experience building and operating web infrastructure at scale, with a strong understanding of testing, CI/CD, observability and operational excellence. Experience using engineering metrics to improve delivery performance, productivity, quality and team health. Strong people-management skills, including coaching high performers, supporting career development and addressing underperformance with clarity and empathy. Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical partners and navigate ambiguity. A strategic, pragmatic and inclusive leadership style, with a high bar for quality, accountability and sustainable execution; experience in Growth, Acquisition, Lifecycle or e-commerce is a plus. Why you should join SumUp: 🌍 Opportunity to work with SumUppers globally on large-scale fintech products used by millions of businesses worldwide, from our Berlin office. This involves an office-first setup 🧑‍🔬 We take learning and experimentation seriously with Hack Days every second Friday, and e…
