You stay close to the code reviewing it, pairing on it, making architecture calls not because you're asked to, but because you can't credibly lead a team you've disconnected from. - You hold a high performance bar and you act on it. - You own the process, not just the output. You understand what great agile execution looks like (small tickets, fast cycle times, obsessive test coverage, standups and retros that actually improve the team) and you tune it relentlessly. - If you manage managers: you develop them, hold them accountable, and you can step into their role when needed. You roll up team performance to the executive level with real metrics. You co-author high-level solution plans with product leadership before work hits the backlog. You don't wait for top-down direction and you don't thrive in slow bureaucratic environments. The engineering problems span distributed systems, real-time data, payments infrastructure, fraud, and compliance. They don't get easier as we scale.
