POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a Long-Term Substitute Teacher for the 2026�2027 school year to serve students in grade 4. The ideal candidate will create a nurturing, inclusive, and engaging learning environment; implement high-quality instruction aligned to curriculum standards; and support the academic, social, and emotional development of all students. Teachers must demonstrate a commitment to equity, student-centered learning, and ongoing professional growth. RESPONSIBILITIES: Deliver standards-based instruction in core subject areas including literacy, math, science, and social studies Create a supportive, positive, and inclusive classroom culture that promotes learning for all students Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including English learners and students with IEPs/504s Utilize formative and summative assessment data to inform instruction and track student progress Establish clear routines, expectations, and procedures to maintain a safe and orderly classroom Collaborate with grade-level teams, specialists, and support staff to plan and implement effective instruction Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and classroom activities Participate in school-based teams, professional development, and data-driven planning sessions Integrate technology to enhance teaching and student learning Support the social-emotional development of students through positive behavior strategies and responsive practices Maintain accurate student records and complete required reports and documentation KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Strong understanding of child development and age-appropriate instructional practices Ability to create and implement engaging lessons that support a range of learners Effective classroom management and organization skills Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Knowledge of curriculum standards and assessment strategies Experience with culturally responsive teaching and inclusive practices QUALIFICATIONS: Connecticut State Department of Education Elementary Certification (013) Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field (Master's preferred) Experience working in a diverse, urban school setting preferred Familiarity with instructional technology and digital learning tools Bilingual or multilingual candidates encouraged to apply SALARY: Salary and benefits are paid in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between NEA Danbury and the Danbury Board of Education, available on the district website.
