Electrical Lineman (Substation Construction) Location: Fayetteville, NC Position Type: Part-time Position Summary We are seeking experienced Substation Electricians to support the construction of a new electrical substation in Raeford, North Carolina. This position is responsible for performing all phases of substation construction including structural steel erection, grounding installation, conduit and cable installation, high-voltage equipment installation, bus installation, equipment terminations, testing support, and commissioning activities. The ideal candidate has previous experience on transmission or distribution substations and is comfortable working around heavy equipment, cranes, aerial lifts, and energized electrical systems while maintaining strict safety standards. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Structural Steel Installation - Assist with erection of substation steel structures, equipment supports, and bus structures. - Perform bolting, alignment, and torqueing of structural steel components. - Assist crane operators during lifting and setting operations. - Install insulators, switch stands, equipment racks, and support assemblies. - Read and interpret structural and electrical construction drawings. Grounding Installation - Install station grounding grids, ground conductors, and ground rods. - Perform exothermic (Cadweld) grounding connections. - Bond structures, equipment, and electrical systems to the station ground grid. - Verify grounding continuity and grounding system integrity. Electrical Installation - Install conduit systems, cable tray, and raceways. - Pull, route, and secure power, control, and communication cables. - Install and terminate control wiring and power conductors. - Install rigid bus, tubular bus, jumpers, and electrical connectors. - Install and assemble electrical equipment and associated components. Equipment Installation - Assist with installation of: - Power transformers - Circuit breakers - Disconnect switches - Current transformers (CTs) - Potential transformers (PTs) - Surge arresters - Capacitor banks - Control houses - Protection and control panels Testing & Commissioning Support - Assist with continuity testing and insulation resistance testing. - Support commissioning and startup personnel during energization activities. - Complete punch-list items and final project closeout activities. - Troubleshoot installation deficiencies as directed. Safety - Follow all company, client, OSHA, and utility safety requirements. - Participate in daily job hazard analyses and safety meetings. - Maintain proper use of PPE and fall protection equipment. - Work safely around heavy equipment, cranes, and energized electrical systems. Qualifications Required - Minimum 3 years of electrical construction experience. - Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. - OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification. - Experience with grounding systems and Cadweld connections. - Experience installing high-voltage substation equipment. - Experience working outdoors in varying weather conditions. - Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly. - Ability to work from aerial lifts, ladders, and elevated structures. - Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Preferred - Previous substation construction experience. - NCCER Electrical certification. - Rigging and signaling experience. - First Aid/CPR certification. Physical Requirements - Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday. - Ability to work at heights utilizing fall protection equipment. - Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor construction environments.
