Essential Job Duties **Safety/Security Sensitive Designation:** This is a safety/security sensitive position for purposes of the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Amendment. 1. Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers, maintain positive and effective working relationships with other City employees (especially members of their own team), and have regular and reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. 2. Perform supervisory responsibilities, which may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the City’s policies and applicable laws. Work directly with police, fire, and other city department supervisors and address issues with these supervisors as necessary. 3. Quality Assurance - Monitor dispatcher activity and ensure calls and radio traffic are handled per policy in an efficient manner. Perform monthly quality assurance evaluations to include call taking, police and fire dispatching, and National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), partnership calls. Review employee assignments to make sure these are completed in a timely manner. 4. Update employees with new or changed policy/procedure information and answer any questions regarding current policies and procedures. 5. Investigate complaints and take appropriate measures to resolve issues. 6. Review all pursuits per police department policy. 7. Manage timekeeping tasks such as review and approval of leave requests and timesheets. Ensure adequate staffing is maintained for the shift. 8. Troubleshoot dispatch equipment problems and ensure equipment is kept in working order and work areas are kept clean. 9. Assist with testing upgrades for the Computer Aided Dispatch software. 10. Accurately compile and/or maintain informational and statistical reports. Ensure all dispatch reports and forms necessary for police department functions are placed in the appropriate network files and emailed to employees in a timely manner. Create on demand reports through the police department records management system. 11. Routinely assist in answering 911 calls and other phones during the shift. Cover dispatcher positions as needed. 12. Radio system responsibilities include updating the radio database. Perform weekly site checks at radio tower locations and recognize issues that need to be addressed. Perform routine generator checks. Serve as point of contact to coordinate needed maintenance. Test the backup radio system weekly. As required, respond to a site when alarms are activated on equipment. 13. Participate in training of new hires and/or oversee and evaluate training of personnel assigned to the shift. This includes monitoring progress and ensuring training paperwork is completed. Schedule classes for all dispatch staff, complete travel and training paperwork, make reservations, maintain certificates, ensure continuing education classes are completed and documented properly, and ensure Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) required training is completed. 14. Write, review, and update policy and procedures for the dispatch center. 15. Manage the CALEA, National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) certification processes. This includes collecting the necessary documentation for proofs needed. 16. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from the public, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. 17. Seek out information about technological advances in public safety communications and their potential impact on operations. 18. Responsible for assigned budget expenditures and p-card purchases.
