About Overstory Health Overstory Health is a newly launched startup building world-class, patient-centric Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs for individuals with high-acuity mental health needs. Our mission is to make compassionate, connected behavioral healthcare more accessible when people need it most. With a clinical model validated by McLean Hospital, we provide comprehensive psychiatric, therapeutic, and community reintegration services that help individuals achieve stability, connection, and confidence both during and after the program. As a growing organization, we offer an exciting opportunity to shape our care model, contribute to our mission, and grow your career as we expand. About the Role We are seeking a Director of Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) to build and lead Overstory Health's in-house billing function from the ground up. This is a foundational, hands-on leadership role: you will be equal parts strategist and operator, designing the RCM infrastructure and team while also working claims, calls, and reports yourself in the early months. You will own the transition of our billing operations from an outsourced partner to an internal team, and you will see the direct financial impact of that work on the business. Over time, as the team grows, you will bring on a manager to run day-to-day operations while you focus on strategy, payer relationships, and scaling the function. Key Responsibilities Own the Buildout: Build the RCM function from scratch, including hiring, training, and managing billers, AR specialists, and eligibility/VOB staff as the team scales. Drive the Transition: Lead the transition of billing operations from our outsourced RCM partner to an in-house team, including phased sunset planning and risk mitigation. Get in the Weeds: Stay close to the work in the early stages — reviewing claims, troubleshooting denials, and understanding the day-to-day mechanics of billing well enough to manage effectively and identify process gaps. Own the Numbers: Track and report on key RCM metrics (days in AR, denial rates, clean claim rate, collections) and translate performance into ROI the leadership team can act on. Bridge Across Teams: Translate RCM performance and terminology for clinical, operations, and finance stakeholders so billing stays connected to the rest of the business rather than operating in a silo. Drive Operational Excellence: Ensure documentation, claims processes, and collections practices comply with payer requirements and relevant regulations. What Success Looks Like A fully operational, right-sized in-house RCM team stood up on schedule, with our outsourced provider fully sunset. Clean claim rates, days in AR, and collections performance meet or exceed prior outsourced benchmarks. Other departments can rely on RCM insights and reporting to make informed operational and financial decisions. A clear path exists to bring on an RCM manager to own day-to-day operations as the team and patient volume grow. Qualifications Prior startup experience, with comfort operating without established infrastructure or a large team around you. 5+ years of progressive RCM leadership experience Behavioral health (Inpatient, PHP/IOP or outpatient behavioral health) RCM experience required Demonstrated experience building or transforming an in-house RCM function Experience managing Managed Medicaid and Commercial behavioral health payers Demonstrated experience building an RCM or billing team from scratch, including hiring and onboarding. Willingness to be hands-on and in the weeds — keying claims, working AR, and troubleshooting alongside the team, especially in the first several months. Fluency in RCM terminology and workflows (claims, VOB/eligibility, payment posting, AR follow-up, denials management) paired with the ability to communicate clearly with non-billing stakeholders across the business. Growth mindset — interested in scaling into a broader RCM leadership role as…
