**POSITION SUMMARY** This position is accountable for providing maintenance support to field operations at marine project locations for Orion Marine Construction Gulf Coast. Incumbents are responsible for learning inspections, repair, and maintenance of functional parts of mechanical equipment or machinery used in dredging and marine construction work. Typically, they will work closely with the Equipment Manager, Equipment Foreman, and Mechanics. The incumbent must support the guiding beliefs and core values of Orion, which are centered on **Safety, Quality,** **Delivery,** and **Teamwork** most importantly, with each built upon the all-important foundation of **Integrity**. **SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES** **** **** - Works as assigned by the Equipment Manager and foreman to learn timely maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment and machinery. - Performs day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities in the mechanic shop and field. - Keeps daily log of work being done. - Possesses expertise in reading and applying parts and service literature. - Possesses expertise in reading and understanding electrical and hydraulic schematics. - Owns or acquires tools to perform miscellaneous repairs on equipment. - Provides oversight by Mechanic Foreman and Mechanic, 1st class to ensure repairs and maintenance are performed to Orion’s equipment standards. - Performs and keeps proper maintenance records of all repairs and service work. - Possesses expertise in correctly clean parts of engines and equipment. - Performs use of hand and power tools and proper maintenance of them. - Performs general facility maintenance and clean-up tasks. - Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs. **** **EMPLOYEE SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE** - Responsible and accountable for incumbent’s own personal safety. - Responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and any others incumbent comes in contact with. - Authorized and obligated to stop work on any task or series of tasks whenever an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or is observed. - Complies with all applicable laws, regulations and Company policies and procedures, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. - Reports any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations or Company policies and procedures promptly, and is subject to appropriate disciplinary action (including dismissal) for failure to do so. - Performs other related administrative and technical duties as may be assigned or requested by immediate supervision (such as certification training, safety training, procedure review, etc.). - All employees, current and former, must maintain confidentiality by not disclosing to others any confidential, proprietary or trade secret information belonging to the Company. **** **POSITION REQUIREMENTS** **** **** A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a heavy equipment mechanic or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary mechanic skills, knowledge and abilities is required. The incumbent must also be able to communicate well and be able to learn and grow in the following duties. - Practices and materials of the heavy equipment mechanic trade. - Operation of various types of marine equipment, machinery, and devices. - Importance of safe work practices in a marine environment. - Mechanic craft and be capable of demonstrating proficiency to perform the job.
