**Job Description** **Position Title:** Development Specialist **Supervisor’s Title:** Director of Development **FLSA Status:** Non-Exempt **Positions Supervised:** None **Creation/Revisions Date:** June 24, 2026 **PURPOSE OF POSITION:** The Development Specialist advances the mission of PenMet Parks by planning and performing office support, stewardship activities and grant writing research and writing under the supervision of the Director of Development. This position assists with organizing office functions, events and operations. The Development Specialist regularly engages with partners, sponsors, donors, community members, contractors, vendors, and employees. **ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:** 1. Serve as a primary point of contact for donors, community members, vendors, contractors, and visitors through in-person, phone, email, and digital communications. 2. Provide professional customer service and support front desk operations as needed. 3. Assist all District divisions with administrative projects and operational support. 4. Coordinate donor stewardship initiatives and support development programs. 5. Assist in planning, organizing, and executing fundraising, donor, and community events. 6. Manage event registration, prepare name tags, track attendance, and update donor and participant records. 7. Support marketing, sponsorship, and community outreach efforts. 8. Conduct grant research and assist with grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), and application submissions. 9. Maintain donor databases, including contact information, mailing lists, and donor records. 10. Organize, maintain, and archive electronic and paper records in compliance with retention requirements. 11. Enter, verify, and maintain accurate data and reports. 12. Prepare correspondence, reports, donor acknowledgments, policies, and other professional documents. 13. Process incoming and outgoing mail and support office administrative functions. 14. Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders. 15. Demonstrate accountability, initiative, and a commitment to achieving organizational goals. 16. Ensure all work is completed accurately, professionally, and with attention to detail. 17. Foster an inclusive and collaborative work environment that values diverse perspectives. 18. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned. **QUALIFICATIONS:** **Required Experience:** - Four years of experience in a nonprofit fundraising, management, or development experience preferred. **Required Education:** - High School Diploma or GED **Professional Licenses/Certifications:** None. **Knowledge/Skills:** - Knowledge of grant research, grant writing, and LOI development. - Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. - Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. - Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and take initiative. - Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. - Experience building collaborative relationships with staff, donors, partners, contractors, and the public. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. - Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. **WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:** - Work is performed primarily in an office setting. - Prolonged periods of time may be spent using a computer, telephone, and other office equipment. - This position will require seeing, talking, walking, standing, bending, and carrying. - This position will occasionally require to lift and carry up to 10 pounds. *“This job description is a summary rather than a detailed list of the duties performed.
