Departmental Assistant – Police SALARY: $48,817.00 Annually OPENING DATE: 7/9/2026 CLOSING DATE: 7/23/2026 11:59 p.m. UNIT: AFSCME-Grade Level 7 DEPARTMENT: Police REPORTS TO: Chief of Police Serves as a customer service representative for the Police Department and the College. Must be knowledgeable in the physical layout of the College as well as the current schedule of events in order to guide all visitors to their destination safely and in a timely fashion. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Records any and all personnel complaints from the public. 1. Answers incoming department telephone calls. 1. Issues parking permits, temporary parking permits. 1. Acts as customer service representative for the department and provides information as needed. 1. Maintains College summons and permit registration records. 1. Issues copies of police reports when they are requested. 1. Processes traffic appeal forms. 1. Provides police personnel with permit registration and College summons information when requested. 1. Sorts and distributes departmental mail. 1. Maintains College-wide key inventory and issues keys as required. 1. Assists with College lost and found. 1. Performs clerical duties of the Police Department. 1. Updates police blotter daily in compliance with Jeanne Clery Act. 1. Prepares and submits discovery as requested for outside agencies. 1. Performs other duties as assigned that are appropriated to the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: - High School diploma or equivalent - Three (3) years’ work experience in a busy office setting - Excellent telephone and customer service skills - Must pass comprehensive background check for Criminal Justice Information Services access PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Associate degree - Strong MS Office skills with advanced knowledge of and experience using Word, Excel and Access - Working knowledge of WordPress and Colleague (or similar student information system) - Working knowledge of computer aided dispatch software (Caliber RMS or similar system) - Excellent phone and organizational skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to make independent decisions SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. RETIREMENT: Pension Eligible Any Middlesex College employee hired after September 1, 2011 will have to meet the New Jersey residency law requirement.
