Performs a variety of custodial tasks to maintain a high standard of safety and sanitation throughout County facilities, grounds, and buildings. Level I: - Sweeps, mops, waxes, and polishes hard surface floors. - Vacuums and shampoos carpeted floors. - Cleans restrooms; maintains restroom supplies. - Washes and spot-cleans windows. - Assists with setting up and breaking down meetings; responsible for securing buildings. - Cleans and maintains equipment; organizes custodial supply room. - Picks up trash and debris from buildings and grounds; empties trash receptacles and recycle bins. - Responds to maintenance requests and work orders. - Responsible for making others aware of emergencies such as floods, power outages, and HVAC failures. - Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned. Level III (in addition to Level I): - Cleans and maintains equipment; organizes custodial supply room. - Monitors and fulfills maintenance requests and work orders; monitors and assists other Custodians; provides direction as needed. - Restocks custodial carts; inventories custodial supplies and submits orders as needed. This position follows a sequence: - Level I: - High School Diploma or GED equivalent. - Up to 1 year of previous maintenance or custodial experience is preferred. - Must possess a valid Colorado Driver’s License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record. - Level III (in addition to Level I): - 3 plus years of previous maintenance or custodial experience. **Knowledge Of:** - Safety policies, procedures, and practices for basic construction industry standards. - Inventory management methods and practices. - Personal protective equipment and proper use. - Equipment troubleshooting methods. - General maintenance practice and procedures. **Skill In:** - Organizing and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks. - Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and in emergency and stressful situations. - Microsoft Office Products and Google Suite. - Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing. - Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. - Operating tools and equipment safely. - Work is performed throughout assigned County buildings, grounds, and facilities. Requires moderate physical exertion and exposure to inclement weather conditions and potentially dangerous tools and cleaning products. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position satisfactorily and, if requested, reasonable accommodations will be made to enable employees with disabilities to perform the essential functions of their job, absent undue hardship. The employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position.
