ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Teaches classes in middle and high schools in accordance with the requirements of approved courses of study, and at a rate level in accordance with student progress expectations. Develops lesson plans that are aligned with approved course outline(s). Engages students in cognitively challenging work as part of a vocational program that focuses on content standards and career awareness. Utilizes data about individual student progress, strengths and needs in planning. Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Evaluates student learning to determine progress, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports. Provides differentiated instruction in order to modify and accommodate for English Learners and students with special needs. Participates, plans and coordinates advisory committee meetings, staff and CTE department meetings, Career Technical Student Organizations, and professional development. Builds, maintains, and enhances the CTE program by providing a dynamic hands-on experience to increase student retention and pathway completion rates. Creates a safe and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to participate and share ideas. Models respectful and polite interactions with all students. Demonstrates use of a fair, firm and consistent classroom management system. Provides clear behavior expectations for students and monitors student behavior throughout the school campus. Assumes responsibility for meeting student performance goals and working with colleagues to meet defined achievement goals. Provides ongoing communication with parents/guardians to create a partnership around student learning by providing information about the instructional program and the progress of their child/children Maintains professional competence through staff development activities provided by the District and self-selected professional growth activities. Takes necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, and materials. Reflects on practice and student progress to inform future instructional strategies. During periods of critical personnel shortage or other emergency situations, shall temporarily perform any duties, as directed, within the authorization of credential/s held. QUALIFICATIONS Education An earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Credential Credential Required: Applicants must hold a CTE Health Science and Medical Technology Credential English Learner Authorization: Applicants must also hold a valid English Learner Authorization such as a CLAD, ELA1, ELAM, ELAS, ELAE, or similar authorization for designated English Language Development instruction or integrated instruction to English Learners. Verified three (3) years of related work experience or one (1) year related work experience and 48 semester hours of related postsecondary vocational training. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS Knowledge of the developmental needs of middle and high school students, including an understanding of appropriate behavior management strategies. Knowledge of the technical aspects of the field of specialty, and the ability to implement a cognitively challenging instructional program to secondary students.
