Duties include holding a sign to control traffic and escorting school-aged children safely across various streets and intersections. ***PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A SEASONAL, PART-TIME POSITION THAT IS ONLY 1 HOUR A DAY. Hours are split shifts from 7:00 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. & 3:10 p.m. - 3:40 p.m. (approximately 5 total hours per week during school season)*** All applicants applying for the position of School Crossing Guard must complete the background authorization form, authorizing the WSPD to run a preliminary driver's license and criminal history check. [CLICK HERE FOR JOB DESCRIPTION](https://www.wstx.us/DocumentCenter/View/4870/School-Crossing-Guard) **EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** - Employs proper signals and all issued equipment designed to assist in the control of traffic during peak school traffic hours at designated crosswalk areas; - Assists school-age children in crossing the street at designated intersections in a safe and orderly manner; - Must be able to hold the stop sign above the head until children are across the intersection; - Promptly notifies the Police Department of pedestrian accidents and real or potential safety hazards that interfere with or impede the safety and/or efficiency of moving pedestrians through an intersection; - While performing the duties of this position, the school crossing guard is regularly required to stand, walk quickly, hear, speak clearly, and occasionally speak/hear over the sound of traffic and work in inclement weather; - Regular and timely attendance is required; - Maintains a positive, friendly, and effective working relationship with the general public and co-workers. **OTHER DUTIES** Please note this job description is not designed to cover or create a comprehensive list of duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
