This position is responsible for performing intermediate level professional and administrative duties, including the supervision of full-time and part-time maintenance staff, contractors, and volunteers. The role involves overseeing routine and emergency maintenance operations at City owned and leased facilities, athletic fields, and parks, and requires managing tasks that involve a high degree of responsibility, complexity, and variety. The Crew Supervisor receives instruction from the Parks Services Manager and Superintendent of Parks and Facilities, while exercising considerable independent judgment to initiate and carry out assignments. Considerable evening and weekend work is required. - Plans, organizes, supervises and participates as necessary in such activities as the landscaping, maintenance, and minor construction of parks, ball fields, trails, ponds, flower beds, curbs and gutters, sidewalks, concrete work, masonry work, and drainage facilities. - Dispatches workers, equipment and materials as required. - Maintains records of personnel and equipment hours as well as materials used. - Supervises crew members, plans and schedules daily work activities, assigns tasks, evaluates work performance, and provides guidance to staff on ways to improve effectiveness. - Participates in the selection of and trains staff. Recommends and processes staff disciplinary action. Responsible for tools and equipment. Keeps records of supplies and materials used. Writes reports, such as accidents, injuries and equipment damage. - Inspect all areas of responsibility to see what work needs to be done. - Ability to identify non-native invasive (NNI) species and perform appropriate management, including selecting and applying proper treatment methods in accordance with established guidelines. - Receives work orders from the Parks Services Manager and Superintendent of Parks and Facilities. Meets with the Parks Services Manager and Superintendent of Parks and Facilities. Meets with supervisors, managers, architects and/or engineers to discuss each project and review blueprints. Inspects work site to see if plans are practical. Recommends changes to original plans if needed. - Estimates staff, equipment, materials and supplies needed for projects and programs. - Organizes and performs emergency services, such as snow removal and storm damage repairs. - Meets with organizations and citizens to discuss schedules and/or complaints pertaining to maintenance. - Acts as Park Services Manager in absence of the manager. - Participates in Recreation and Parks special events as required. - Performs other duties as required. High school degree; and three (3) years of progressively responsible work in grounds management, building or park maintenance management; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Qualifications: Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) learner’s permit within 6 months of hire, followed by a CDL (Class A or B) within 12 months of hire. - Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for the proper operation of equipment and conduct for safe work around mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and heavy equipment. - Knowledge of the materials, methods, techniques, tools and equipment used in varied parks maintenance and repair activities. - Knowledge of turf maintenance, inspect and disease control, turf establishment and nutrient management. - Knowledge of the principals involved in the operations of irrigation systems and water pumps, field drainage systems, recreation and parks maintenance procedures, and building maintenance procedures. - Knowledge of computers and related software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and work order management systems, with the ability to use them effectively for daily tasks, documentation, and record-keeping. - Ability to plan, organize and effectively supervise the work of a group of…
