Under general supervision provides leads the day-to-day operations of subordinate crewmembers in the maintenance of City Public Grounds. Participates in construction, repair, and maintenance activities. | Education: | High school diploma or GED | | --- | --- | | Experience: | Three (3) years of progressive relevant experience in grounds maintenance, landscape installation or construction, or special event coordination | | Certifications: | Valid driver's license at hire | | Preferred: | Associates degree in grounds maintenance related field | | Note: | The City retains the right to determine equivalencies. Any certifications not possessed at hire, must be obtained before the employee is removed from probation in order to continue employment with the City. | Must be physically able to operate a rubber tire backhoe, front end loader, tractor, roller, dump truck and grade; utilizes tools such as saws, drills, hammer, mowing and trenching tools, and hand tools. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds. **ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS** Directs the daily activities of subordinate crewmembers in the maintenance of specific functional areas. Supervises the work of subordinates which involves such duties as instructing, overseeing/reviewing work, assisting in planning and coordinating activities, maintaining standards. Makes recommendations for employee transfers/promotions, observes and reports on employee problems, contributes to selection of new employees and the appraisal of subordinate employee performance. Assists in creating schedules, operations plans, and daily plans. Contributes to identification of maintenance needs and plans, organizes and oversees the day-to-day activities of subordinate staff as required to maintain crew operations which produce results that meet City standards. Supports Special Event activities planned and organized by other crews. Contributes to creation of specifications for and implementation of contracts for mowing, trimming, mulching, and/or other maintenance activities. Oversees the daily work of crewmembers ensuring compliance with established policies and with concern for safety, quality, and efficiency. Monitors inventory levels of supplies; ensures availability of adequate materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new or replacement items. Operates a variety of standard and specialized machinery, equipment, and tools associated with the maintenance of parks and other City grounds such as rubber tire backhoe, front end loader, tractor, roller, dump truck and grade; utilizes tools such as saws, drills, hammer, mowing and trenching tools, hand tools, etc. Provides adequate records of labor, materials, and equipment used in the completion of work orders. Ensures the maintenance and care of equipment used in daily operations. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, time cards, supply lists, or other documents. Communicates with manager, supervisor, subordinate staff, other departments, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems. Responds to requests for service or assistance. Follows safety procedures, reports unsafe activities and conditions, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals. Attends meetings in order to facilitate communication with internal and external stakeholders.
