## Description Job Title: Counselor Reports to: Clinical Director Scope and Job Purpose A Counselor is a trained professional who helps individuals struggling with substance use issues, such as alcohol or drug addiction. The counselor provides support, guidance, and therapeutic interventions to help clients recover from addiction, develop healthier coping mechanisms, and improve their overall quality of life. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operations Assessment & Evaluation Individual & Group Therapy Developing Treatment Plans Education & Prevention Crisis Intervention & Support Case Management Relapse Prevention & Aftercare Direct Care The counselor supports individuals in achieving and maintaining sobriety, helping them navigate the challenges of withdrawal, cravings, and the pressures of everyday life without turning to substances. Beyond addiction, the counselor works on improving the overall mental health of clients, addressing underlying issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem, which may contribute to substance abuse. By providing tools and strategies for coping with stress, emotions, and life situations, the counselor empowers clients to make healthier choices and develop a more resilient mindset for long-term recovery. Counselors often involve family members in therapy to educate them about addiction, its effects, and how they can provide better support for their loved one’s recovery. They also work to strengthen the social support network of the client. By providing early intervention and treatment, counselors help prevent the escalation of addiction issues, minimizing the long-term impact of substance abuse on the client’s health, relationships, and well-being. A significant part of the counselor’s job is to advocate for recovery within the healthcare system, ensuring clients have access to the resources, services, and treatments they need to recover and maintain a healthy life. Other Duties Perform other duties as assigned. Compliance Understand and adhere to Skypoint Recovery policies and procedures as they appear in the Personnel Polices, Standard Operating Procedures, and other Company publications. Comply with all laws and compliance standards relevant to the work being performed. Physical Requirements Generally sedentary work involving sitting, standing, walking, typing, reaching, reading from screens and printed materials, grasping, talking, hearing, pushing/pulling. Assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations. Qualifications (Education, Work Experience, Licensure, etc.) Required A Chemical Dependency Counseling Assistant or bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Human Services, Mental Health Counseling. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in a social service field or Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling or Clinical Psychology. Required Clearances Review the Required Screenings Policy for requirements. ## Requirements Must have NPI and Medicaid # prior to starting. We assist when an offer is extended. Must pass pre-employment testing.
