Counselor II

Under the Counseling Center Director's supervision, the Counselor II will provide mental health counseling services to help students manage emotional, psychological, and social needs/concerns. The Counselor II assists students in exploring their feelings, interpersonal relations, and future goals/aspirations. **Essential Functions** 1. Facilitate the optimal functioning and well-being of University students by providing individual and group counseling 2. Develop treatment plans and conduct reviews as needed throughout the duration of care for students. 3. Provides psychological assessment procedures and makes referrals when warranted. 4. Promotes responsible care of Counseling Center clients by maintaining client contacts, consultations, and referrals according to professional guidelines. 5. Ensures that students’ needs are addressed in emergencies by providing crisis intervention services during office hours and after-hours as needed. Shares on-call responsibilities. 6. Provides educational workshops by participating in proactive outreach programming. 7. Provides substance abuse counseling to the student body. 8. Provides consultation with faculty and staff members for mental health and behavioral issues of students. 9. Remains knowledgeable about current trends in counseling, psychotherapy, and student development by participating in professional development through presentations, publications, and memberships in professional organizations and obtaining continuing educations units (CEUs) as required by the state licensing and regulatory boards. 10. Contributes to the Counseling Center’s overall functioning by completing all other tasks that the Director of Counseling assigns. **Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities** 1. Interact effectively with administrators, faculty and staff members, students, colleagues, and community members and possess all the general qualifications of a counseling center staff member. 2. Practical communication skills, including influencing skills, basic listening skills, attending skills (visuals, vocals, verbal/body language, and behavior) 3. Responsibility to read, understand, apply, and follow the professional counseling code of ethics and practice standards. 4. Knowledge of group dynamics and facilitation skills 5. Ability to integrate various evidence-based, theoretical approaches into practical counseling techniques. 6. Ability to skillfully provide case management services 7. Ability to provide leadership and supervision to counseling team in the Director’s absence 8. Organize and participate in Counseling Center in-service education activities 9. Maintain professional licensure within the State of Delaware and membership in appropriate professional organizations. 1. Professional Licensure and/or Certification in Counseling or a related mental health field: Required. 2. Education: Minimum Master's Degree in the Counseling, or closely related field 3. Successful experience: Minimum of five years of counseling service on the collegiate level. 1. Essential functions are performed on a timely basis. 2. Reliable attendance 3. Adherence to and ability to maintain confidentiality. 4. Maintain ethical standards in the provision of clinical services 5. Refer clients to other service providers when appropriate and provide follow-up on referrals made 6. Provide appropriate consultation for faculty, staff, and students promptly 7. Respond promptly to requests for emergency services 8. Provide mental health-related programming for the campus 9. Coordinate the processing and maintenance of confidential counseling records as determined by Counseling Center policies 10. Compliance with all University policies and protocols
