Our Middleton, MA facility is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to join our finance team. The Cost Accountant will play a critical role in managing and analyzing project and operational costs to support accurate financial reporting, profitability analysis, and strategic decision-making. Learn more about the ITAR [Here](https://www.pmddtc.state.gov/ddtc_public?id=ddtc_kb_article_page&sys_id=24d528fddbfc930044f9ff621f961987) ## Requirements Key Responsibilities: - Perform job costing activities, including tracking, allocating, and analyzing direct and indirect costs associated with projects and client engagements. - Lead or support the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of costs, accruals, and adjustments. - Prepare and analyze financial statements, including cost of goods sold, gross margin reports, and variance analyses. - Assist in the development and monitoring of annual budgets and forecasts, working closely with department heads to provide cost insights and recommendations. - Maintain and improve cost accounting systems and procedures to enhance efficiency and data accuracy. - Reconcile inventory, work-in-progress, and cost accounts on a regular basis. - Conduct detailed cost variance analysis and provide actionable insights to management. - Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to inquiries related to cost accounting. - Collaborate with project managers, operations, and other finance team members to ensure accurate costing and billing. - Perform ad-hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned by the Controller. Qualifications and Requirements - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required. - Experience: - - Minimum of 3+ years of progressive experience in cost accounting, preferably in a services or project-based environment. - Hands-on experience with job costing methodologies. - Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., Global Shop, JobBoss, Sage, QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, or similar). - Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles. - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. - Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with high attention to detail. - Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. - Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
