CLINICAL LAB SCIENTIST I Microbiology

| The Clinical Lab Scientist II works cooperatively with all team members and performs waived, moderate and high complexity laboratory testing per CLIA regulations. | | --- | | Core Competencies | | --- | | Assists in organizing and monitoring daily workflow for the team. Prioritizes and coordinates work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency. Performs laboratory tests according to written laboratory procedure, evaluates test results for accuracy and clinical significance. Reports test results. Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained. Ensures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and test systems are properly functioning. Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications. Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens. Performs Proficiency Testing investigations when assigned. Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed. Accessions and prepares specimens according to laboratory procedure. Performs clerical and computer-related documentation accurately. Assists in training and orientation of new employees and students. Assists with competency assessment tasks. Answers telephone inquiries of a technical nature from physicians or hospital personnel in other areas of the hospital while maintaining good phone etiquette. Uses the appropriate hand off communication techniques (SBAR) when appropriate. Demonstrates an active problem solving attitude & positive approach to all aspects of job Maintains safe work area by observing all safety procedures and reporting any unsafe conditions or practices to the appropriate personnel. Participates in hospital performance improvement activities (kaizens, lean initiatives) when appropriate. | | Department Specific Competencies | | --- | | Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of theory, test applications and process control of department.
