The Chief reports to the President of Piedmont University .As the highest-ranking officer of the police department, the Chief serves as the primary resource and advisor to the University on all matters related to safety, security, law enforcement, and emergency preparedness. Unlike traditional municipal policing, this position requires a proactive, prevention-first approach aligned with the academic mission and values of Piedmont University. The Chief provides strategic leadership, anticipates emerging risks, develops and implements forward-looking safety policies, and fosters a culture of trust, preparedness, and shared responsibility across the campus. The role balances executive administrative oversight with visible, engaged leadership to ensure that public safety strategies align with the needs of a diverse, dynamic learning environment.Ensures the protection and well-being of students, faculty, staff, visitors, service providers, and University property through preventive strategies and responsive services. Provides uniform security and police patrol services 24/7 with an emphasis on visibility, relationship-building, and deterrence. Participates in safety and security planning for high-profile university events such as Commencement, athletic contests, and visiting dignitaries, coordinating proactively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a safe and welcoming environment. Participates as needed in investigations, crime prevention, community relations, and special events, with a focus on proactive risk mitigation. Works cooperatively with student organizations, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders to address safety concerns through collaboration and open communication. Participates in investigations for internal infractions and implements corrective measures to sustain a culture of integrity and excellence. Monitors parking and enforcement processes to help support broader campus safety goals. A POST Certified officer shall carry a departmental approved weapon and maintain a satisfactory proficiency level. Other relevant duties as assigned. Regular and predictable attendance is required. On-site work is required. Incumbents must remain relevant in the area of employment and flexible to changes in work related to institutional needs.**Education and Experience** Associate's degree in related field required. **Licenses and Certification** Valid Georgia Driver’s License (or obtained within 30 days of hire date) and satisfactory MVR. Current Georgia POST Certification **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities** Ability to perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters to include arranging for emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging, and carrying people away from dangerous situations and securing and evacuating people from particular areas. Ability to extinguish small fires by using a fire extinguisher and other appropriate means. Ability to gather information in criminal investigations by interviewing, and obtaining the statements of victims, witnesses, suspects and confidential informers, and following this, be able to prepare investigative and other reports, including sketches, using appropriate grammar, symbols and mathematical computations. Ability be able to process arrested suspects to include taking their photographs. Ability to read and comprehend legal and non-legal documents, including the preparation and processing of such documents as citations, affidavits and warrants. Ability to demonstrate communication skills in court and other formal settings. Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment.**Environmental, Physical, and Visual Acuity Factors** Incumbents are subject working in both internal and external working conditions where they will be subject to exposure to extreme heat or temperatures above 100 degrees.
