The **Braille Instructor** is responsible for providing comprehensive pre- and post-skills assessments, one-on-one and group classroom and distance learning instruction, and specialized equipment recommendations for students who are blind or visually impaired. These services are provided to individuals in both residential and outreach settings across the state of Alabama. This position requires a passion for working with students, staff, parents, and community partners. The instructor will actively participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Educational instruction to meet each student's unique needs. You will document student progress and performance in a timely and accurate manner. Effective communication with students, staff, and partner organizations is a vital part of this position, requiring strong writing, speaking, and public relations skills to foster a collaborative and supportive learning environment. **POSITION REQUIREMENTS** **Basic Qualifications** - **Education & Experience:** Must have obtained a Bachelor’s degree, OR have at least one (1) year of experience teaching Braille. - **Braille Competency:** Must demonstrate competency in Braille by scoring 90% on the AIDB Braille Skills Assessment upon offer of employment. **Preferred Qualifications** - **Teaching Experience:** Three (3) years of professional experience teaching braille. **POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES** **Student Instruction & Training** - **Core Curricula:** Provide one-on-one and group classroom and distance learning instruction for students who are blind or visually impaired. - **Technical Literacy:** Demonstrate proficiency in literary Braille and Nemeth Code.
