Boys Cross Country JobID: 2413 Position Type: Athletics/Activities/Coaching Date Posted: 6/24/2026 Location: Port Angeles High School Date Available: 08/17/2026 Additional Information: Show/Hide DESCRIPTION Port Angeles High School is seeking an Interim Head Boys Cross Country Coach for the 2026�27 season. This is a one-year-only interim position. The Head Coach will oversee all aspects of the boys cross country program, including varsity and sub-varsity runners. A key component of this role is working closely and collaboratively with the Girls Head Cross Country Coach to ensure a cohesive, unified cross country program. The successful candidate will build a positive team culture that promotes sportsmanship, discipline, academic success, and community pride while ensuring compliance with WIAA regulations, league rules, and district athletic policies. Responsibilities include organizing daily practices and meet schedules, supervising athletes at workouts and competitions, managing equipment/uniform logistics, and supporting offseason running and conditioning opportunities consistent with school and WIAA guidelines. RESPONSIBILITIES Lead and manage the daily operations of the boys cross country program. Collaborate closely with the Girls Head Cross Country Coach on practice schedules, travel logistics, meet organization, and overall program culture. Plan and execute structured, progressive, and safe daily training plans for runners of all ability levels. Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and team travel. Promote athlete safety, injury prevention, proper running mechanics, and hydration/nutrition habits. Maintain accurate records, including roster management, meet results, and equipment inventory. Communicate effectively and professionally with student-athletes, families, school staff, and the media. QUALIFICATIONS Previous high school or collegiate cross country coaching or competitive running experience. Demonstrated knowledge of NFHS Cross Country rules and WIAA regulations. Ability to lead, organize, and inspire a diverse group of runners ranging from beginners to elite competitors. Experience developing and implementing effective distance training programs (endurance, speed, and recovery). Strong leadership, team-building, and motivational skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively in a co-coaching or shared-program environment. Strong communication, administrative, and organizational skills. Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, staff, and community members. Commitment to academic success, character development, and sportsmanship. Ability to maintain student confidentiality and follow district and school policies. Must meet or obtain all WIAA coaching certification requirements. Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or ability to obtain prior to the start of the season. Must be 21 years of age or older.
