**Position Title:** Birthing Barn Midwife **Reports To:** Director of Museums and Tour/Adv. Operations Manager **Position Goals and Summary:** The responsibilities of the Birthing Barn Midwife are to showcase cow well-being by engaging visitors in conversation and over-exceeding expectations of gentle human-cow interaction. The Birthing Barn Midwife performs all daily duties of the Birthing Barn operation. **Duties and Responsibilities:** - Opens and closes the birthing barn following the SOPs and checklist. - Proactively greets guests with a warm welcome and engages with open-ended questions. - Proactively shares information about the birthing process with guests. - Answers all questions in an accurate and friendly manner. Uses empathy when explaining tough-to-explain farm practices. - Ensures barn viewing area is clean, safe, and at a comfortable temperature for visitors and cows. - Manages the stoplight notification dial and proactively uses radio to communicate the current “color” of the birthing barn. - Uses positive language to manage undesirable visitor noise levels or behavior. - Communicates with cow hauler to ensure cows are brought to the Birthing Barn at regular intervals. - Pulls calves following farm procedures when cows need birthing assistance. - Feeds newborn calves following farm procedures. - Calls farm vet when cows or calves need advanced medical treatment. - Follows cleaning protocol in all areas of responsibility to remove manure and other cow bodily fluids. - Manages fresh straw delivery and removal by coordinating with farm handler. - Manage flies and other pest insects by following outlined procedure. - Maintains fresh, clean water for cows. - Give personalized premium tour experiences, ensuring top-tier service, attention to detail, and a memorable guest experience. - Other duties as assigned. **Job Requirements:** - Effective listening and communication skills. - Comfortable speaking to a large crowd. - Impeccable stage presence. - Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards. - Problem-solving abilities. - Professional, outgoing, and polite demeanor and appearance. - Flexible availability to work early shifts, weekends, and long hours. - The ability to bend, squat, reach, and twist. - The ability to push, pull, and lift heavy objects. - Knowledge of farm practices to perform the above responsibilities. - Willing to get Passenger endorsement on driver’s license **Experience and Education:** Minimum of two years’ experience in a similar position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
