Position Responsibilities: The Career and Technical Education Academic Support Paraprofessional provides supplemental instructional support to students participating in Career and Technical Education pathways, with a focus on strengthening the academic skills needed for success in CTE coursework, postsecondary readiness, and career readiness. This position supports students who are failing, or at risk of failing, to meet challenging state academic standards by reinforcing teacher-planned instruction, assisting with academic skill development, supporting student organization and engagement, and helping students apply reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and problem-solving skills within CTE learning experiences. This position does not replace the role of the certified CTE teacher, general education teacher, special education provider, counselor, or CTE program administrator. The paraprofessional works under the meaningful direction and supervision of a certified teacher and may not be assigned full responsibility for instruction, assessment, grading, curriculum design, or determining student mastery. Provide supplemental one-on-one or small-group academic support to students, as planned by the certified teacher, to reinforce reading, writing, mathematics, communication, and problem-solving skills embedded in CTE coursework. Assist students with understanding technical vocabulary, workplace texts, safety documents, procedural directions, rubrics, project requirements, and career-related reading materials. Support students in completing written components of CTE coursework, including reflections, technical reports, career research, employability documents, project summaries, and other teacher-assigned academic tasks. Reinforce applied mathematics skills connected to CTE learning, such as measurement, estimation, data interpretation, budgeting, sequencing, proportions, formulas, and workplace calculations, when these skills have been introduced by the teacher. Assist the certified teacher with classroom and lab organization, instructional materials, student checklists, learning stations, student progress folders, and other materials that support supplemental instruction. Provide instructional assistance in computer-based or technology-supported learning environments when students are using approved instructional platforms, career exploration tools, assessment preparation materials, or teacher-assigned digital resources. Support students with organization, task initiation, assignment completion, attendance follow-up, and progress monitoring so students remain engaged in CTE coursework and connected to academic expectations.
