Backend developer - Senior

We’re seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to design and build scalable, high-performance microservices using Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Kubernetes. You'll work on complex financial systems, leverage AI-assisted development tools, and contribute to modern cloud-native architectures. As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you will design, develop, and maintain secure, scalable microservices and APIs supporting complex financial platforms. Working with technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Docker, and Kubernetes, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions while leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, code quality, and operational efficiency. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with strong expertise in distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and modern software engineering practices. ### Responsibilities - Analyze business and system requirements and design robust backend solutions aligned with functional and non-functional needs (performance, security, scalability, resilience, observability) - Design, develop, and maintain microservices-based applications using Java and Spring framework - Develop high-quality, reusable, and maintainable code in line with Zensar and client engineering standards - Actively leverage AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, AI agents) to accelerate development, improve code quality, and optimize workflows - Build and enhance both business logic and platform capabilities within the product landscape - Implement secure and scalable RESTful APIs, following industry best practices (JWT, API security) - Work on complex algorithmic calculations and data processing used in financial systems - Perform code reviews, enforce coding standards, and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team - Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, QA, DevOps, architecture) in an agile environment - Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and support containerized deployments (Kubernetes) - Participate in demos and stakeholder presentations to showcase new features and capabilities - Ensure application observability through logging, monitoring, and tracing ### Qualifications Required Skills & Experience: - 7+ years of experience in backend development using Java - Bachelor’s/master’s degree in computer science or related field Strong expertise in: - Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring Cloud) - Microservices architecture and distributed systems - Event-driven systems (Kafka) Solid experience in: - REST API design and development - API security (JWT, authentication/authorization mechanisms) - SQL and performance tuning Hands-on experience with: - Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) - CI/CD tools and DevOps practices - Good understanding of observability (logging, monitoring, tracing tools) - Strong knowledge of software design patterns, engineering best practices, and coding standards - Experience working with AI-assisted development tools and integrating AI in SDLC - Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills Soft Skills: - Strong communication and presentation skills - Collaborative mindset with ability to work across global teams - Proactive, ownership-driven approach - Ability to work in fast-paced, delivery-focused environments Nice-to-Have: - Experience in financial services or capital markets domain - Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) - Understanding of high-availability and resilience patterns ### About the Company At Zensar, we’re *“experience-led everything”*.
