Overview Smosh is seeking a versatile audio professional to strengthen and support production. The Audio Technician will be responsible for capturing high-quality sound across channels and projects. This role flexes between serving as the primary Sound Mixer (A1) and supporting as an A2 when the need arises. In addition to on-set audio capture, the Audio Technician will assist in maintaining audio systems and equipment, supporting infrastructure, and will collaborate with the Director of Audio to develop effective strategies for projects ranging from recurring studio content to live events and tentpole productions. Core Competencies - Technical Audio Expertise: Demonstrate deep knowledge of production audio equipment, workflows, and industry best practices while maintaining exceptional sound quality. - Adaptability: Seamlessly transition between lead (A1) and support (A2) roles while adjusting to changing production priorities, schedules, and technical requirements. - Preparation & Organization: Maintain well-organized equipment, documentation, and workflows to ensure productions run efficiently with minimal technical disruption. - Problem Solving: Quickly identify and resolve technical issues on set while remaining calm under pressure. - Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with Production, Camera, and IT & Equipment teams to execute each production's creative and technical vision. - Attention to Detail: Consistently monitor audio quality, equipment performance, metadata, and file organization to ensure accuracy from production through post-production. Key Responsibilities - Capture Audio – Record, monitor, and mix production sound for studio, location, livestream, and tentpole productions, serving as either the A1 or A2 based on production needs. - Manage Production Workflow – Manage timecode, metadata, and audio file organization to support a smooth handoff to post-production. - Prepare & Maintain Audio Systems – Partner with the IT & Equipment Coordinator to keep equipment ready for production. - Organize, test, and maintain audio equipment and accessories. - Coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance. - Assist with rigging, technical setup, and Dante network support. - Troubleshoot issues that arise during production. - Support Production Planning – Participate in pre-production meetings to help determine audio needs, recommend capture strategies, and identify equipment requirements for each production. - Stay Current on Audio Technology – Maintain a strong working knowledge of production sound equipment, RF coordination, wireless systems, digital audio workflows, and emerging technology. Preferred Qualifications - Dante Certification. - Experience with console-based live sound mixing. - Knowledge of audio post-production workflows. - Scissor lift certification or operating experience. - Soldering and basic equipment repair skills. - Advanced experience with RF coordination and wireless audio systems.
