CLARKE SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications from aspiring faculty and junior lateral candidates interested in directing our Community Development Law Clinic. Students in the Community Development Law Clinic learn transactional and business lawyering skills while representing non-profit organizations and small, urban entrepreneurs. The Clinic often works in concert with community-based business centers and other professionals to provide clients with comprehensive professional consulting services. Clinic students provide clients with a wide range of direct legal services to help them establish and operate their businesses and programs. Candidates must hold a J.D. degree with a record of strong academic performance and excellent potential for scholarly achievement. Relevant experience and demonstrated potential for outstanding clinical teaching are expected. The position's rank will depend on the successful applicant’s level of experience. The start date for the position is January 4, 2027. Minimum Job Requirements ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LAW A candidate for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor of Law shall have: An earned Juris Doctor degree and be a member in good standing of the Bar of the District of Columbia or other state. The potential for teaching excellence and scholarly growth; and Demonstrated professional competence in the relevant field and the potential for professional growth. An initial appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor of Law shall be without tenure and for a period of not more than three years. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF LAW A candidate for appointment to the rank of Associate Professor of Law shall have: An earned Juris Doctor degree and be a member in good standing of the Bar of the District of Columbia or other state. Demonstrated teaching excellence and a record of scholarship; Demonstrated professional competence in the relevant field, demonstrated professional attainment, and the potential for continued professional growth; and At least three years of full-time teaching experience at an accredited law school. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES: • Ability to supervise and mentor law students in the competent and ethical representation of clients. • Expertise in the substantive area of law relevant to the clinic and the delivery of high-quality legal services. • Ability to teach experiential courses that integrate legal doctrine, professional skills, ethics, and reflective practice. • Ability to provide timely, constructive feedback and assess student performance using clear learning outcomes. • Commitment to access to justice, community engagement, and serving historically underserved populations. Information to Applicant Collective Bargaining Unit (Union): This position is in not in the collective bargaining unit.
