As our transaction volume scales, we are modernizing our infrastructure and growing our team to support our next chapter of growth. **Position Summary** We are seeking a forward-thinking, process-driven Assistant Controller to partner directly with our CFO. This is a critical player-coach role. You will inherit and lead an established team of three transactional accounting professionals, with the expectation of scaling the team as the company grows. We are currently operating on QuickBooks Online but plan to migrate to a robust mid-tier ERP within the next year. Our ideal candidate is a builder, an automation enthusiast, and a strong people manager. You look at manual workflows and ask, "How do we make this scale?" while simultaneously coaching your team to reach their full potential. You know how to delegate effectively, but you aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty alongside your team. **Key Responsibilities** - Team Leadership & Talent Development - Manage, mentor, and develop a 3-person accounting team (General Accountant, AP Specialist, and AP Clerk), fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. - Act as a true player-coach: empower and delegate day-to-day transactional tasks to your team while remaining close enough to the details to step in and support them during peak periods. - Identify talent gaps as transaction volumes grow and assist the CFO in strategically expanding the accounting team. - ERP Migration & System Optimization - Play a key role in evaluating, selecting, and implementing a new mid-tier financial/ERP system within the next 12 months. - Map existing QuickBooks Online data and workflows to the new system, ensuring a clean and seamless transition for your team. - Identify and integrate third-party automation tools to streamline invoicing and billing for our subscription-based multifamily client model. - Scalable Process Improvement & Internal Controls - Critically evaluate current AR, AP, and transactional accounting workflows to eliminate bottlenecks and manual entry. Automate processes so we can handle much larger transaction volumes in the future. - Drive continuous improvement initiatives to ensure the accounting function can easily absorb a high volume of new transactions as the company scales. - Establish and maintain tight internal controls and GAAP-compliant policies that safeguard assets without sacrificing operational speed. - Month-End Close & Audit Management - Lead and accelerate the month-end and year-end close processes, delivering timely and accurate financial statements to the CFO. - Oversee and manage the annual financial audit from start to finish, serving as the primary liaison for external auditors, preparing year-end schedules, and ensuring GAAP compliance. - Oversee daily accounting operations, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance…
