Demonstrated knowledge of effective teaching methods and developmentally appropriate classroom activities. Ability to maintain a positive learning environment. Digital fluency is required. Works to enhance the educational experiences of young children through the creation of a supportive learning environment and the use of developmentally appropriate materials and practices. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status and a complete physical examination. SUPERVISES: Students, and when assigned, student teachers and classroom teacher assistants. JOB GOAL: To provide special education and general education students with a high quality, stimulating, safe, and developmentally appropriate educational environment. Teachers develop and implement lessons that will enhance students' cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. Teachers utilize New Jersey State approved curriculum Tools of the Mind for students three to five years of age in a half-day scheduled class. Teachers develop and align teaching, learning, and assessments that are anchored to best practices and the current research-based curriculum to early childhood students. Teachers are responsible for the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans for preschool students with disabilities developed in conjunction with the Child Study Team. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Works to enhance the educational experiences of young children through the creation of a supportive learning environment and the use of developmentally appropriate materials and practices. Promotes active learning using structured and unstructured activities that foster the social, physical, cognitive, and emotional development of young pupils. Implements the approved curriculum and uses appropriate learning activities designed to foster learning at each child's developmental level. Works to achieve district educational goals and objectives and state core curriculum content standards. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the Tools of the Mind curriculum to the needs of each pupil. Balances teacher-directed and child-initiated experiences. Develops and uses age-appropriate assessment tools and maintains records of pupil's development and educational progress in class record books and/or approved forms and summarizes these marks for reporting purposes. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members and professionals (occupational therapist, physical therapists, and speech therapists, and child study team) in assessing and resolving learning problems. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to discuss pupil progress. Participates in the development of the district's plan for special education. Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through inservice education and other professional growth activities. Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups. Upholds and enforces school rules, administrative regulations and board policy. Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.
