Any single position may not perform all of these duties and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.* - Answers complaints regarding domestic and wild animals - Explains the provisions of various codes and ordinances regarding animals - Writes violation notices and issues citations; and testifies in court proceedings - Patrols the City for violation of laws pertaining to animals - Impounds stray animals understanding some may become violent; and removes dead animals from public and private properties - Transports impounded animals to the contract Animal Care Facility - Captures and transports sick and injured animals to contract veterinarians - Performs emergency euthanasia on irredeemably suffering animals - Investigates animal bites and arranges for the quarantine of animals involved - Keeps records and submits reports of animal impounded and investigations conducted - Drives a motor vehicle - Operates a two-way radio - Carries and uses tranquilizing guns, as well as various types of animal traps, ropes, and restraints in the performance of duties **TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:** Graduation from high school or successful completion of a GED; AND one (1) year of work or volunteer experience in a position involving a high level of public contact in an animal related environment or public service capacity. **Highly Desirable:** One (1) year of work or volunteer experience in the care and handling of domestic and/or wild animals with a recognized agency or enterprise; OR one (1) year of animal control experience. **KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS IN:** Laws pertaining to animal regulations; safe and efficient methods of animal capturing; breed identification; operating and maintaining tranquilizing guns; maintaining basic animal traps; lifting and handling large animals. **ABILITY TO:** Complete the 832 Penal Code Course; attend job related training that may be out of town for several days; read maps of the local area.
