This instructor will teach health related courses at the Ottumwa High School as part of the Health Careers Academy Program. This person will also teach nursing theory courses as assigned. Will select clinical learning experiences at long term care facilities and other health care agencies for students in the Health Careers Academy Program. Will supervise students providing care and evaluate their progress. Courses may include a variety of delivery methods, including on-campus, hybrid or blended distance learning and on-line. BSN preferred. - Must have or be willing to obtain Train the Trainer for Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) instruction. - Three years of clinical nursing. One year of geriatric nursing experience as an RN preferred. - Must relate well to people and display a high degree of competency within the nursing field. Must be capable of creating a classroom environment that is conducive to student learning. - Must be certified in a minimum of Healthcare Basic Life Support (BLS). - Teach courses in accordance with objectives of the course outline as set forth by the division using a variety of instructional methods and technologies that facilitates learning for all students. - Select clinical learning experiences for students at affiliating health care agencies and simulation settings. - Organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly. - Assure that the Nursing Essentials I (Nurse Aide) course is taught in compliance with the requirements of the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals Guidelines and all course records are maintained. - Develop and maintain current course syllabi/outlines for assigned courses each term. - Assist in planning and carrying out studies and surveys. - Maintain cooperative relationships with professional personnel, local organizations, public officials and other interested people. - Assist in maintaining public relations with the local community and take part in community relations when possible. - Actively participate in program promotion and recruitment of students, provide academic advising as needed, and assist in the placement and follow up of graduates. - Represent the College in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community. - Meet all assigned classes and office commitments as scheduled. - Attend and participate in all scheduled faculty meetings unless excused by the division dean. - Emphasize to students the importance of prompt and regular class attendance. Consistently and accurately record student attendance. - Serve as the faculty advisor for HOSA for the academy students to provide support for students in program-related co-curricular activities. - Work collaboratively as a subject matter expert to develop curriculum or provide discipline specific instruction within credit and non-credit areas of the college as needed. - Measure and evaluate student progress and maintain accurate and up to date student course grades throughout the course. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports as requested. - Submit appropriate referrals for students in need of services.
