Whether you're looking for supplemental income, semi-retired, between opportunities, or simply prefer contract work, this role allows you to pick up underwriting files based on your availability while supporting a high-performing mortgage operations team. As a 1099 Independent Contractor , you'll have the freedom to choose the days and hours you'd like to work. There are no minimum hour requirements , and you can scale your workload based on your availability. As our business continues to grow, there may also be opportunities to transition into a full-time W-2 Government Underwriter position should both your interest and business needs align. Why Join Our Government Underwriter Reservist Team? ✅ Work remotely from anywhere in the U.S. ✅ Create your own schedule ✅ Choose the hours that work best for you ✅ No mandatory overtime ✅ Pick up files based on availability ✅ Opportunity to supplement your income ✅ Opportunity for future full-time employment ✅ Supportive and collaborative underwriting team 🛠️ Key Responsibilities 🏡 Government Mortgage Underwriting • Analyze FHA, VA, USDA, and Conventional mortgage loan applications to determine creditworthiness and eligibility. • Review loan-to-value (LTV), debt-to-income (DTI), credit reports, income documentation, assets, employment history, and supporting documentation. • Calculate borrower income and evaluate repayment capacity. • Review DU, LPA, and agency underwriting findings. • Structure loans that meet agency, investor, and company guidelines. • Identify potential credit risks and make sound underwriting decisions. • Issue loan approvals, suspensions, and denials with clear underwriting conditions. 📑 Loan File Review & Documentation • Review mortgage loan files for completeness, accuracy, and compliance. • Evaluate residential appraisals and supporting collateral documentation. • Request additional documentation when necessary to support loan eligibility or collateral value. • Ensure underwriting documentation is complete prior to final approval. • Maintain detailed underwriting notes and loan file integrity throughout the underwriting process. 🤝 Collaboration • Partner with Loan Officers, Processors, Closers, and Operations teams to move loans efficiently through the underwriting process. • Clearly communicate underwriting decisions and conditions. • Provide guidance regarding agency guidelines and loan structure. • Help resolve complex loan scenarios while maintaining excellent customer service. • Collaborate virtually through Microsoft Teams, email, and other communication platforms. ⚖️ Compliance & Q…
